Fishing is good for your health?
The first EP Freshwater League of 2008 was fished on the weekend of 23-24 February and the following report was received in this regard:

FRESHWATER LEAGUE 1 (23-24 February 2008)

It gives me great pleasure to forward this report to you.

Firstly we must thank Mr. Riaan Nel from S.A. National Parks for the excellent condition of the roads to Darlington Dam.  It was indeed a pleasure travelling on gravel roads in that condition.

3)  C Ellis                           H&R        176.5 kg

The heaviest barbel was weighed by J Le Roux Gamtoos 13.0 kg and
The heaviest carp was weighed by C Fourie TRC 5.0 kg.

Congratulations to these winners and we hope to see more people at the next outing.

There was unfortunately a lot of dead fish that had to be carted away. We need to investigate this problem and come to the next meeting with suggestions which we can forward to Riaan at Addo Parks. We cannot afford any bad publicity. There is still a problem that people keep their fish in the same nets. The club captains must please see to it  that everyone knows the rules.

It is imperative for us to keep the venue as neat and clean as possible at all times.

I must thank all the members for their good behaviour on and off the water.  I am proud to be associated with E.P.L.T.B.A.A. anglers, especially if you fish like commercial anglers.

Tight lines

E.P. Freshwater Secretary (a very proud one)

Congratulations from Gaston Crepelle in France:

Congratulations to the H & R club for the excellent results in the freshwater league competition.

A suggestion for keeping fish alive until the weigh in: long and wide keepnets as we have here (mind you, our competitions only last about 3 or 4 hours, but even with 30 kgs of fish (bream, roaches, carps), we have very few dead fish after the weigh in.

ASSISTANCE URGENTLY REQUIRED

An email was received from Henry Cunningham who resides in Storms River along the Garden Route. Henry would like to start an angling club in his area, but needs some guidelines on how to go about it. Which association should he affiliate to, etc. If there's anyone out there with a working knowledge of running a club and who is prepared to assist him, it would be highly appreciated.

What about you guys from the Keurbooms River Ferry and Angling Club and the Knysna Angling Club?

Come on anglers, this is your opportunity to make a contribution to our wonderful sport. Henry can be contacted at henryc@sanparks.org.

Thank you in anticipation.
